Asian zone qualifiers for the FIFA
Beach Soccer World Cup took place in United Arab Emirates, with
hosts United Arab Emirates, Japan and Iran booking their places at
the global showpiece for the second consecutive year.
Cameroon and Senegal booked their place at the FIFA Beach Soccer
World Cup Marseille 2008 by reaching the final of the African event
in Durban, South Africa.
The European qualifiers took place in Benidorm from 13 to 18
May 2008, with the four semi-finalists - namely Italy, Portugal,
Russia and Spain - securing their places at the world finals. Spain
will travel to Marseille as continental champions after beating
Portugal 4-3 in the final.
No qualifiers will be held.
OFC has nominated Solomon Islands as their representative
based on their results over the past two years, which show that
they are the strongest team in the area.
Brazil won the South American Beach Soccer Championship, which
was held from 23 to 27 April 2008 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The
Argentinian hosts, beaten 6-1, also qualified, as did third-placed
Uruguay.
